The basic class descriptions only include 10 levels for each class; it is assumed that higher level characters will multi-class into one or more other basic classes, or into advanced and/or prestige classes.

[[Advanced Classes|Advanced classes]] are each associated with one of the basic classes, though a character need not necessarily have levels in that class to qualify for the advanced class. They represent a focus and a calling for the experienced adventurer and provide a specialization and a range of power and ability to set the character apart. Characters can usually qualify for one or more advanced classes after attaining about three levels in basic classes. 

[[Prestige Classes|Prestige classes]] are an even further specialization of the hero’s abilities and vocation; so much so that many characters never choose a Prestige class, but do fine with the options offered by a combination of basic and advanced classes. For those few who do concentrate their development and qualify for a prestige class, however, this level of specializing offers powerful benefits within that narrow area.
