====== Computer Descriptions ====== Descriptions of the various types of computers available are presented below. The Computers table shows the game statistics of each model as it normally comes “out of the box.” Each computer has the following statistics: **Processor:** The quality of the computer’s processor. In many ways the most important part of a computer, the processor does all the work of running the operating system and processing all of the commands and activities called for by programs. Processors are ranked by general quality. The quality of the processor provides modifiers to a user’s Computer Use checks whenever she uses the computer and to her initiative checks when casting her shad-ow on the Grid. Obsolete processors are processors use tech from the cutting edge of PL 5 and into PL 6. Not really designed for the needs of today’s programs, they can limp on. Marginal processors are PL 6 tech or are designed only for minimal functionality in current computing devices. Good processors are the average. They power a large portion of personal computing devices and even some professional machines. Excellent processors are powerful, usually installed in computers that are expected to work hard and look good doing it. Amazing processors are the bleeding edge of 26th century technology. Scientists, program crafters, and Gridpilots are the prime users of amazing processors. |**Processor**| **Computer Use Mod.**| **Initiative Mod.**| |Obsolete |-4 |-4| |Marginal |-2| -2| |Good| 0 |-1| |Excellent |+2 |+0| |Amazing |+3 |+2| **Active Memory:** The number of memory slots that a computer has to actively run programs. **Stored Memory:** The number of memory slots that the computer has to store inactive programs and other files. Size: The computer’s size category. **Weight:** The computer’s weight in pounds. **Purchase DC:** The Wealth check DC to purchase the computer as presented in the description. **Restriction:** The level of restriction placed on the computer by authorities, if any. In cases where a computer is restricted to any extent, the black market modifier to the purchase DC is noted in parentheses. |**Computer**|**Processor**|**Active Memory**|**Stored Memory**|**Size**|**Weight**|**Purchase DC**|**Restriction**| |Data Slate| Marginal 2 5 Dim - 6 -| |Desktop| Good 15 50 Large 10lb 18 -| |Gauntlet| Good 12 25 Small 2lb 15 -| |Mainframe| Excellent 30 200 Large 400lb 34 -| |Smartcard Good 4 8 Dim - 8 -| |Supercomputer| Amazing * * Huge 2500lb 45 Lic (+1)| |Workstation| N/A 20 0 Large 200lb 20 -| ===== COMPUTER PROCESSORS ===== {{tag>grid}}
