The process for placing a videophone call is essentially the same as that for a telephone. All of the same functions are available, in addition to still picture and video recording and viewing. In regions with an appreciable [[grid|Grid]], the videophone can even be used to access the Grid as a marginal [[interfaces|GID]]. Complementary to the mute function, the videophone also offers a blank screen function, allowing users to prevent their images from being displayed (or to transmit a still “wallpaper” or recorded video feed). The Videophone require at least minimal Grid infrastructure to work. This limitation can be offset by adding +1 to the phone’s purchase DC and adding a micro-transmitter that allows the phone to communicate with similarly-equipped devices within 10 miles.
