Storyteller House Rule
A roboticist is an expert who builds, maintains, repairs, reprograms, and modifies robots of all kinds, from heavy industrial welders and miners to delicate seismic survey bots. A trained roboticist understands not only hardware actuators, databases, and decision trees, but also imaging and representation programs that permit robot perception and social programming that oversee robot interaction with sentient beings. In a way, the job combines all the most difficult aspects of engineering, programming, and psychology. In addition, many roboticists are aware of the legal implications of artificial intelligence and are clever enough to know where to find the sometimes-elusive parts required to keep robots running, or to maximize their performance. Independent robots that take up roles as roboticists excel in all categories save understanding human psychology.
