Panama City sits on the eastern coast of Panama next to the Atlantic opening of the Panama Canal. It is a very mixed and diverse community consisting of whites, blacks, mestizos, mulattoes, native Indians and Asians. Occasional violent racial tension has broken out since the completion of the canal. The city is remarkable for the high levels of sanitation it possesses.
