The Pioneer Co-Prosperity Zone

The Pioneer Co-Prosperity Zone was an experiment destined to fail. Settled in a region of space barely outside the core Terran Empire systems, the original Zoners were independent adventurer types who wanted to “go it alone” amongst the stars. Underfunded and only moderately successful, their independent streak gave way to local interdependence. The Co-Prosperity Zone became an experiment in pure communism, a full sharing of all resources and income amongst the handful of star systems involved. They banded together for mutual defense in the 1st Galactic War, and gained full independence. While neutral in stellar politics, the Zone did not help itself by failing to establish trade or close relations with any of the nearby stellar nations. Still, the experiment may have survived further and even thrived like the Nariac Domain, if not for a neighbor.

The Nordic Independent State had a weaker economy, but a much more powerful military. The Zone‟s valuable resources and decentralized structure made them attractive targets. The independent nature of the Zoners did not allow for a united front towards the invading Nordics and they quickly fell to the superior might of their invaders.

As the Orion League came into creation, many surviving Zoners were just as content to be a part of a larger nation dedicated to exploration and individualism. Several systems still have strong ties to the Zone, and govern in a very social serving way to this day.
